These PSA posters were made for the ‘Fight Against Domestic Violence’ campaign. They are to bring awareness to issues a lot of people face at the comfort of their own home, although it is not so comfortable. In this campaign, I wanted to also bring a lot of attention to the fact that it is not only women who are being targeted, but a lot of men will experience this issue as well.
The challenge with this project was coming up with an idea for how I wanted to represent the cause. I wanted it to be very impactful and touching, making people really feel for the matter. I wanted to go for more of an ironic approach, to show that relationships more of the time start off as very loving, but can turn into something less of the sorts. Another issue was finding images that could accurately represent violence. Most of them work very well but didn’t give enough of the idea.
For the ironic approach I wanted, I decided to incorporate your typical wedding vows as the ‘tagline’ or the punch. Against the dark and disturbing background of some sort of domestic abuse, having the loving words of wedding vows shows that irony in marrying someone but it turns sour. A lot of the sentences also somehow fit with the image that is being displayed. For some of the images where it was less obvious of it displaying domestic abuse, I added some bruising on the body to show past trauma.
